Find shiplap style wood at The Home Depot, where 8-foot-long boards are sold in 6 packs. Plain pine boards are cheaper than the pre-painted or finished versions, but you can buy them either way. The Home Depot also has instructional videos to help you with installation questions.
My lumber dealer says that dried boards in a width of 1×8 or 1×10 will warp when they are painted and then exposed to the warm room climate. So if you’re wondering where to buy shiplap – just give your local lumber yards a call. They are super helpful and you’ll be helping out the little guy. Starting at the bottom, we measured the length for the first plank. Leveling the very first plank is key so that all the other planks are level. You may want a helper to help you hold the level and the plank to ensure it’s perfect before nailing it down.

Already primed, these boards come in a natural shade of white but can be painted whatever color you desire. Unfortunately, a warranty is not available when purchasing. For some crazy reason I have yet to figure out, my local big box stores (Home Depot, Lowes & Menards) do NOT carry shiplap. At least, not the real shiplap with the square rabbeted edges like I wanted.
